Mackenzie Kohlman
Orenda Facilitaor
Mackenzie believes every child deserves to be seen, understood, and supported, not simply taught how to behave. She is passionate about creating spaces where young people can build emotional awareness, confidence, and meaningful connections with themselves and those around them.
As an Orenda Facilitator and Registered Social Worker, Mackenzie guides youth through experiences rooted in the Orenda framework, incorporating mindfulness, breathwork, movement, land-based learning, and self-awareness. Her approach is grounded in the belief that when children understand what is happening within themselves, they are better equipped to navigate the world with resilience, curiosity, and confidence.
Mackenzie brings a diverse background in social work, having supported children, youth, and families in nonprofit organizations, schools, group home settings, and with Alberta Children's Services. These experiences have strengthened her understanding of child development, emotional wellbeing, and the importance of meeting people exactly where they are with empathy, compassion, and genuine connection.
Completing Orenda Teacher Training marked an important milestone in Mackenzie's own personal growth. More than learning a framework, it challenged her to experience the work herself, reinforcing her belief that authentic facilitation begins with a willingness to continue growing alongside those we serve.
Outside of Orenda, Mackenzie finds joy in motherhood, gardening, spending time in nature, and creating meaningful experiences for children and families. Becoming a mother has deepened both her personal and professional understanding of attachment, emotional regulation, and the powerful role relationships play in shaping a child's sense of self.
Looking ahead, Mackenzie hopes to continue expanding community-based programming that equips children and families with practical tools for emotional wellbeing before challenges become crises. She believes that by fostering connection, self-awareness, and supportive communities early in life, we create healthier futures for everyone.
"Children don't need to be fixed. They need safe spaces where they can understand themselves, feel connected, and discover the strengths they already carry within them."
Four Thigs You Might Not Know About Me
-

What's an unusual achievement you're proud of?
Completing the Orenda Teacher Training. It pushed me outside of my comfort zone in ways I wasn’t expecting, especially with speaking, sharing, and allowing myself to be seen. I’m proud that I showed up and challenged myself even when it felt uncomfortable.

What's your favourite season and why?
Fall is my favourite season. I love everything about it the colours, watching the leaves change, the flavours, the crisp air, and just the overall cozy feeling and vibe that comes with it.

What skill or hobby are you currently trying to improve or learn?
Gardening. I love learning through trial and error and seeing what I can grow. Every year teaches me something new, and I like that gardening requires patience—you can put in the work, but you also have to trust the process and let things grow in their own time.

Name five things you love.
