The Science Behind It
Sport psychology research is clear: team cohesion directly impacts performance. When athletes feel psychologically safe, they communicate faster, take smarter risks, recover from mistakes more quickly, and execute better under pressure.
Self-Determination Theory tells us athletes need three things to thrive: competence, autonomy, and connection. Most training environments cover the first two. We focus on the third, because without it, the other two only go so far.
We work with the internal experience of the athlete, the self-talk, the pressure, the unspoken team dynamics, the gap between how a player shows up and who they actually are, and we shift it. Intentionally. Experientially. With tools they actually use.

ORENDA Team Builds are designed for athletes across all disciplines: hockey, ringette, dance, skating, basketball, multi-sport programs, and school-based athletic teams. If you have a group of young people competing, performing, or training together, this work is for them.
We've worked with teams from U9 through high school and adult, including Okotoks Female Hockey Development Camp, Raiders, RISE Ringette, Alberta Warriors, PHL, Calgary Fire, Female Super League, Okotoks Minor Hockey, Legacy Athletics, Edge School for Athletes, Dallas Robbin Power Skating, dance academies, and skating clubs. We consistently see stronger cohesion, higher engagement, and improved communication between athletes and coaches.

Athletes can't rally around a team that doesn't know what it stands for. We guide teams to define their values, build their agreements, and create a shared compass that drives decision-making throughout the season.
Mindset & Mental Performance
Goal setting, managing performance anxiety, visualization, pre-competition routines, and the connection between internal state and output. Practical tools rooted in sport psychology that athletes actually use, not theory on a whiteboard.
Trust, Communication & Psychological Safety
Teams with high psychological safety speak up sooner, resolve conflict faster, and perform better under pressure. We create the conditions for real honesty and give athletes the language and tools to hold each other accountable in healthy ways.
Resilience & Emotional Regulation
Setbacks, mistakes, losses, and pressure are part of every season. How a team moves through those moments, individually and collectively, determines whether they fracture or become unshakeable. We build that culture before the season tests it.
